Let's Prophesy- Bear
Last time we saw how to Believe in Prophecy and today we are going to see how we can bear the prophecies in our life. Bearing prophecies involves carrying the messages inspired by God, whether they pertain to warnings, guidance, or hope. The act of bearing prophecies involves a deep connection with God, a willingness to listen to His voice, and a commitment to faithfully communicate His messages to others & themselves.
Romans 12:6 is a relevant scripture when discussing the concept of bearing or carrying prophecies. The gift of prophecy is specifically mentioned, highlighting the importance of those who have received this gift to exercise it in accordance with their faith.
Prophecy is not limited to Prophets
The biblical understanding of prophecy is not limited to the few prophets who want to showcase it on a big platform. 1 Corinthians 14 suggests that prophecy is a gift that can be accessible to a broader range of believers for the edification and encouragement of the local community to attract them towards Christ. This indicates that prophecy is not solely reserved for a particular group but is something that the entire Christian community is encouraged to pursue.
Do not boast in Prophecies
Ephesians 2:8-9 teaches that salvation is by grace and not by works to prevent boasting, the use of spiritual gifts, including prophecy, should also be approached with humility and a focus on the common good of the community rather than personal pride or self-exaltation. This verse reinforces the idea that the exercise of the gift of prophecy should be done in a way that benefits and instructs the entire community to glorify Christ, and not for personal glory or boasting.
1 Corinthians 4:7 speaks that prophecy, being a spiritual gift, is not something individuals inherently possess on their own merit. It is a gift from God, given by His grace. Therefore, boasting in one’s ability to prophesy or considering oneself superior to others based on this gift contradicts the understanding that all gifts come from God.
Seeking God rather than seeking Prophecies
James 4:8 speaks to the broader theme of seeking a close and intimate relationship with God. The act of drawing near to God involves repentance, purification, and a sincere desire for a deeper connection with Him.
Prophecy is often seen as a manifestation of the Holy Spirit, and individuals are more likely to receive and convey prophetic messages when they are in tune with God’s heart and His will. The idea is that by drawing near to God, believers position themselves to better discern His voice and receive insights or messages that may be conveyed through the gift of prophecy.
1 Peter 1: 15-16 speaks to believers to be holy as God is holy. The primary goal is not just to receive messages but to deepen the relationship with the One who speaks.
In the context of prophetic ministry, the ultimate goal is to glorify the name of Jesus. The one who prophesy should set his/her heart on Jesus, His holiness, and a deep longing to be in the presence of the Holy One, Jesus Christ as described in Revelation 15:4.
